Tattoo Removal in Hamburg

Tattoo Removal in Hamburg

Tattoos Are Considered Cool and Modern

Tattoos are often seen as a cool and modern way to express one's personality. Many young women and men visit tattoo artists to create a permanent statement on their skin. However, sometimes these decisions are later regretted. Whether it's the name of a former love, an unsuccessful design, or the natural fading and distortion of the tattoo over time, there are many reasons why someone might want to have a tattoo removed.

The Tattoo Removal Process

With modern methods and advanced laser devices that direct light onto the tattooed skin for just a few picoseconds at a time, most tattoos can be almost completely removed. The success of tattoo removal depends on several factors, including the type of ink used and how densely the color particles were applied. The removal process works by breaking up the color pigments with strong laser light. As the ink breaks down into smaller particles, the body can gradually eliminate them, causing the tattoo to fade. Removal is a process that takes place over a longer period. Typically, three to six sessions are required, with an interval of four to six weeks between each one. The tattoo will lighten progressively after each treatment.

FAQs

The laser light is configured to a specific wavelength that targets the color of the ink pigments used. The tattoo artist who originally did the work can often provide you with information about the colors used. At Traumpraxis am Alstertor, we use a state-of-the-art medical laser system capable of breaking up a wide variety of colors and dyes. The laser is directed at the tattooed skin, where it is absorbed by the ink. This causes the ink to break down into smaller particles, which the body can then remove via the lymphatic system.

You should avoid visiting a solarium for at least four weeks before your laser appointment. Do not use self-tanning products on the area to be treated for at least one week before the appointment. Refrain from sauna visits during this period as well. Ensure that you do not have any skin infections and stop taking any blood-thinning medication at least 24 hours before the laser treatment.

In the days following the laser treatment, apply Bepanthen or a similar wound healing ointment to the treated area. Avoid exposing the treated skin to sunlight for four to eight weeks after the appointment. If the tattoo is in an exposed area, you may need to cover it. Visits to the solarium and sauna should also be avoided. It may be a good idea to begin tattoo removal in autumn, so the process is complete by the following summer.

The number of sessions required varies depending on factors such as the colors used and the density of the ink application. Generally, three to six laser sessions are needed to remove a tattoo completely. The tattoo will lighten after each treatment, but success cannot always be guaranteed within this timeframe.

In principle, most tattoos can be removed with laser treatment. However, the success of the procedure can vary, especially with unconventional colors or tones. In some cases, a pigment shift can create a negative imprint of the tattoo, resulting in unwanted lightening of the skin. Additionally, small scars or skin irregularities that were created during the tattooing process may become visible after the ink is removed.

Complete removal of a tattoo with a laser is often possible, but it cannot be guaranteed. Factors such as the type of ink used and individual physical conditions play a role.

Laser tattoo removal can be painful due to the heat generated during the process. The pain is comparable to getting a tattoo. Anesthetic ointments can help alleviate some of the discomfort.

In rare cases, patients may experience allergic reactions to the laser treatment, such as swelling. Laser treatment can also cause abrasions, which typically heal within a few days. However, if dirt gets into these wounds, inflammation and scarring can occur. This can be prevented with careful attention during the healing process.

Laser tattoo removal at Traumpraxis am Alstertor starts from €29 per session. Please note that multiple sessions are usually required to completely remove a tattoo, and the cost per session may increase if a larger area needs to be treated.
